“Enhanced Security: Nvidia Releases Latest Driver Updates for Windows 7, 8, and Previous Generation Kepler GPUs – Tom’s Hardware”

Nvidia Releases Two New Graphics Card Driver Updates with Enhanced Security

Following the release of the Nvidia App 551.61 driver update yesterday, Nvidia has announced two additional updates to address major security flaws in its older GPU drivers. Nvidia has promised to provide more details on these security flaws on its website soon.

Multiple Security Vulnerabilities Fixed Through Driver Updates

Nvidia has revealed two separate security updates this time around instead of just one: 474.82 and 474.89. The 474.82 update is dedicated to Nvidia’s GTX 600/700 series GPUs (excluding the GTX 750 series) on Windows 10 and 11, while the 474.89 update is for all Nvidia GPUs on Windows 7, 8, and 8.1. This includes older GPUs such as the GTX 10 and RTX 20 series, but not the newer RTX 30 and 40 series, which only support Windows 10 and 11.

Nvidia Addresses Security Concerns with Latest Updates

In an official statement, Nvidia has stated that the 474.82 update addresses security issues in Kepler-series GeForce GPUs that are not supported by Game Ready Drivers. The 474.89 update, on the other hand, focuses on security for all GeForce GPUs running Windows 7 and 8.x, which are not supported by Game Ready Drivers.

Game Ready Driver Support Limited for Older GPUs and OS Versions

As of October 2021, Game Ready Driver updates, including performance enhancements, new features, and bug fixes, are only available for systems running Windows 10 and 11. However, critical security updates will still be provided for systems running Windows 7 through September 2024. Therefore, users of older GPUs or Windows versions are advised to update to these latest drivers to ensure the security of their system.

Upgrade Options for Older GPUs and OS Versions

If you are still using Windows 7 or 8/8.1 or have a Kepler-series GPU, it is recommended to upgrade to one of the new drivers to ensure the security of your system. Alternatively, if you have a newer GPU (such as GTX 900 series, 1000 series, or RTX 2000 series) but are still on Windows 7 or 8/8.1, upgrading to Windows 10 or 11 will allow you to continue using Nvidia’s latest Game Ready drivers and extend driver support beyond 2024.

These latest GPU driver updates are now available for download from Nvidia’s driver website. Be sure to check their security website for more information on the specific security vulnerabilities addressed in these updates. Keep your system secure and up-to-date with these new driver updates from Nvidia.
